KSA #13: COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Teachers understand how student learning is enhanced through the use of home and community resources.
I strive to know how to identify resources relevant to teaching and learning objectives, and how to incorporate these resources into their teaching and students’ learning.
PROFESSIONAL STORYTELLER- RENEE ENGLOT
During my last practicum week with ELA 10-2, we were graced with a professional storyteller who brought popular fairytales such as Rapunzel and Cinderella to life. The event was organized by the ELA department head and my class and I were so grateful to have been a part of such a worthwhile experience. Students were able to practice the language art of listening as Renee told the Grimm Brothers' version of Rapunzel and Cinderella. By listening to such versions, students were able to engage prior knowledge and gain new perspectives about such popular stories. This experience was especially valuable to ELL (English Language Learners) who were familiar with such stories in different cultural contexts. They were able to make connections and learn new words, idioms, or social conventions through listening to Renee's exceptional storytelling. This experience was definitely worthwhile as it enhanced students' learning and I look forward to incorporating such valuable community resources in my next practicum.
