KSA #11: ASSESSMENT
I strive to know how to assess the range of learning objectives by selecting and developing a variety of classroom and large-scale assessment techniques and instruments.
ELA 10-2 SAFE HAVEN PROJECTS
The images above are student exemplars for a representing project in the ELA 10-2 novel study unit, Fish House Secrets. Students created a visual representation of a place that is personally meaningful to them. They wrote a one page rationale to explain 5 different elements in their safe havens and related it to the theme of how place shapes identity in the novel. This simple project enabled students to respond personally and critically to the text. It was also an excellent way to get to know the students since they chose to personal places that shape them as individuals.
ELA 20-1 NEWSPAPER ARTICLES
The student exemplars above were created during the ELA 20-1 Short Story unit. Students read the short story Twins by Eric Wright and created a newspaper article to summarize the plot in an objective point of view. The purpose of this assignment was to get students to focus effective word choice, grammar, sentence structure, and descriptive language. Students created quotes to support the details in their articles and followed a newspaper template that included a mastline, headline, by-line, picture, and caption.
